Does verifying the customer's IP address help detect triangulation fraud?
Asked a year ago
I have my own Shopify store and want to protect my customers from fraud as far as possible. One thing that I want to be able to detect as early as possible is triangulation fraud where fraudsters use stolen personal information for purchases in other stores. It's my hope that if I can verify IP addresses I can prevent the fraud.

Yes, verifying the customer's IP address help detect and prevent triangulation fraud to some extent. A triangulation fraudster will have a reasonable distance between the delivery and IP address locations. It is a clear indication of triangulation fraud that tempts the seller to take preventive measures accordingly.
