Urchin Tracking Module (UTM) codes are unique identifiers that allow you to track the success of your marketing campaigns. They are generated by a code builder and can be inserted into links, ads, and other marketing materials. When someone clicks on the link or ad, the UTM code is passed along to Google Analytics (or any other analytics program), allowing you to see how many people clicked on it and where they came from.

How to Create UTM Codes in Google Analytics

UTM codes are a great way to track the performance of your marketing campaigns. By adding UTM codes to your links, you can see how much traffic each campaign sends to your website.

To do this in Google Analytics, you can create UTM codes by following these steps:

  1. Head to Google’s campaign URL builder.
  2. Enter the URL and campaign information. Fill out all the fields marked with an asterisk. If you are unsure of what information to put into any of the attribution fields, there’s a handy table at the bottom of the page that will help.
  3. Once the appropriate fields have been filled, the tool will automatically generate a UTM code. Copy this code and move on to the next step.
  4. Begin measuring your success. Now that you’ve got your UTM code, insert it into any appropriate marketing materials, whether that be ads, an email, or a third-party affiliate website.
